Mahaka Square, Jakarta, Indonesia – Last year’s best local player Mario Wuysang had another big game against the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers. After scoring 23 points last month against the Slingers, Wuysang scored 21 points this afternoon to lead Indonesia Warriors in a win over Slingers 65-57. Steven Thomas also came up big for the Warrios by recording his seventh double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Donald Little finished with 20 points while Louis Graham added 15 points for the Slingers. Graham was struggling with his shots as he only made 7 field goals from 25 tries.
Warriors came out with more energy in the first half. They were motivated to get their second win at home. Warriors held a 32-24 lead at halftime.
Slingers made their run early in the third quarter. A three point shot by Don Dulay and a jumpshot by Louis Graham tied the game at 32 with 7:53 remaining in the third quarter. Donald Little was on a roll in this quarter, scoring 12 points and both teams were tied up at 47 going into the final quarter.
The Warriors made 6-0 run in the final quarter after Thomas, Cañada, and Wuysang made a basket to help stretch the Warriors lead to 63-53 with 2:58 left in the game. The Slingers were not helping themselves in the last 2 minutes of the game as they turned the ball over 3 times, ultimately extending their losing streak to four games.
Warriors’ coach Todd Purves made a change in his starting line-up, putting in Joseph Salangsang instead of Rony Gunawan to start the game. Salangsang did not disappoint however, scoring 8 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in his first start for the Warriors. Another key for the Warriors in this game is dominating the boards. Warriors out-rebounded the Slingers 52-29.
Warriors are now with 4 wins and 4 losses. They will travel to Manila as they try to redeem themselves against the San Miguel Beemen after losing at home 61-77 to the Beermen last weekend. The Slingers will have a 10 day break before trying to snap their four game losing streak against the Saigon Heat at home.
