Gem in Mall, Cyberjaya
The Singapore Slingers push their record to 6 – 1 with a hard fought 81-76 win against the Westports Malaysia Dragons at the Gem in Mall stadium in Cyberjaya Malaysia tonight.
The Slingers who were playing their first game back after the Christmas/New Year break were far below their best but led by import centre Justin Howard who finished with 26 points, 27 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals the visitors were able to do just enough to pull out the win.
The Slingers also got strong contributions from local player Leon Kwek who finished with 19 points & 3 assists and import Xavier Alexander who finished with 17 points, 4 rebounds & 6 assists.
The Slingers and the Dragons will back up in less then 48 hours in Singapore for the second game of a two game series. This two game series has extra meaning with the overall winner of the series taking the Straits Cup. Malaysia won the inaugural Straits Cup and will come to Singapore on Sunday set on turning around tonights loss.
