ABL Player of the Week: Leon Kwek

The Singapore Slingers are on top of the rankings after the opening week of the ASEAN Basketball League and the renewed confidence of one of their locals is one of the reasons why.

With mainstays Wu Qingde and Delvin Goh not in the active roster, it was forward Leon Kwek who stepped up to aid Singapore imports Justin Howard and Xavier Alexander.

Kwek shocked everyone watching in the Slingers’ opening game against the Westports Malaysia Dragon as he was automatic from mid-range. Kwek finished with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists in the easy win. After a one-day break, Kwek was solid against Alab Pilipinas with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Kwek’s performance helped the Slingers get a 2-0 start and that’s why he is the ABL Player of the Week. On the season Leon is averaging 15.5ppg & 6.5rpg.

Aside from Kwek, there were also a lot of outstanding individual performances in the three-game week. Singapore’s Howard averaged 22 points and 13.5 rebounds per game in their twin wins and also marked a milestone by getting his 1,000th point in the ABL.
