Bangkok, Thailand – The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers showed they have a lot of work to do before their home game next Tuesday against the ASEAN Basketball League Defending Champions Indonesia Warriors after struggling offensively against the Chang Thailand Slammers. The visiting Slingers faltered and lost to the Slammers, 65-62

The Slingers had several chance to tie the game in the final seconds but missed 2 three point attempts as the final buzzer sounded

New Slammers Import Charles Christien had his way inside the paint with 16 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 blocks. ASEAN Import Froilan Baguion had his share on the scoring chores with 15 points and 13 assists.

Kyle Jeffers led the game in scoring with 18 points, while grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking 4 shots. Rashad Jones-Jennings had another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in a losing cause.

“This game clearly showed where we are and what we need to do to be successful this season”, said a disappointed Michael Johnson, General Manager of the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers.

As opposed to their previous match, the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers and the Chang Thailand Slammers found their rhythms early on offensively as both teams shot well from the field – Slingers converting 9 of their 16 shots while the Slammers hitting 9 of their 17 in the 1st quarter. With 7 lead changes and 3 deadlocks, the quarter ended in the favor of the Slammers 22-19.

In the 2nd quarter, Singapore’s first and only professional basketball team capitalized on the turnover woes of the Slammers. That wouldn’t be enough though as the 2011 ASEAN Basketball League Champions still held the lead at halftime 38-34.

Baguion took matters in his own hands as the second half started. He set up his teammates for easy baskets early in the third quarter that saw the Slammers lead by 14 points. Baguion had 6 assists in the third quarter alone.

The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers didn’t want to fade that easily though as the combined efforts of Jones-Jennings, Jeffers, and Desmond Oh cut the Slammers lead down to 1 point with less than a minute to go in the game. Jun Cabatu, however, turned the ball over with 22 seconds to go in a possession that could have won the game for the Slingers.

Wong Wei Long missed the Thailand game due to personal reasons.

The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers take on the Indonesia Warriors on Tuesday, January 29, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Tip Off is at 8PM and tickets are available via Sistic.
