Singapore, 5th February 2016
When Hi-Tech Bangkok City needed their MVP, their MVP delivered.

Hitech centre Chris Charles had one of his best all-around performances of the season with a staggering stat line of 26 points, 21 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 4 steals to lead his team with the victory over the Singapore Slingers, 83-75, at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.

Charles was flat-out dominant right from the opening tip. He got rebound after rebound as the Slingers front court could not match his intensity in the paint in the first half of tonight game.

The league-leading Slingers were a step slow as the game started and were out hustled by Charles and the rest of Hi-Tech team all game. Charles had amassed 13 rebounds by half time, 6 of those on the offensive boards, propelling Hi-Tech to a dominate ten point lead at the half.

The Slingers lifted their defensive intensity in the second half and at one stage during the 4th quarter had pulled Hitech’s lead back to just 4 points, but the Slingers comeback stalled when they had several key lapses on defense and crucial turnovers on offense.

Tonight’s loss has cut the Slingers lead at the top of the ABL ladder to just 1 game over both Hitech and the Dragons. The Slingers had been on a 10 game win streak which is the longest winning streak for any ABL team this season.

The Slingers (13-3) will look to bounce back from their first defeat in 11 games when they travel to Bangkok to play the Mono Vampires on Wednesday 10th Feb, while Hitech Bangkok City (12-4) will head home to face the Malaysia Dragons (12-4) on the same day.
Slingers Head Coach Neo Beng Siang said ” this was a tough loss to stomach, after 10 straight wins we didn’t come out and give our best efforts tonight, especially in the first half when we let Hitech’s bigs dominate us inside. I was very disappointed we didn’t execute our plays and struggled to stay focused tonight “.
Coach Neo added “Hitech are the defending champions and one of the favourites to win it all again this season, they were very physical tonight and took the game up to us on our home court,  they manhandled us out there and we allowed them to push us out of our offense, as a result we played individually rather then team basketball trying to get back into the game. We will need to up our intensity and execution at training this week and get back to what got us 10 wins straight, said Neo”.
