Slingers Hold off the Mono Vampires to Record Opening Home Game Victory
A Mono Vampire squad desperate to break their two-game losing streak came to the OCBC Arena in Singapore looking to do just that.
However the Singapore Slingers had other plans.
Leading almost the entire game, the Slingers withstood a late run by Mono Vampires to notch their second win of the season, 72-66 in the ASEAN Basketball League.
Slingers imports Justin Howard and Xavier Alexander laid a strong platform for a Slingers win but it was Singapore Slingers rookie Leon Kwek who made the big plays in the 4th quarter. Kwek finished the game with 11pts and 5rebs but it was his confidence under pressure hitting two big jump shots and grabbing a key offensive rebound after Mono had cut the Slingers lead down to just 4 points that sealed the victory for the Slingers.
The Vampires were led by Thai Kruatina Ratdech 15pts & 7rebs and American import 219cm Anthony McClain who finished with 12pts, 16rebs & 4blks.
