OCBC ARENA, Singapore 3rd January 2016:
The Singapore Slingers extended their current win streak to 6 games with a 73-65 win at home against a determined Mono Vampires team.
The Slingers who led the game throughout and had a 19 point lead in the second half were nearly run down by a fast finishing Mono team. Mono cut the deficit to just 2 points with under 3 mins to play in the game but as they have done before this season, the Slingers were able to get some key stops on defense and some big shots late in the game to hold on for the win.
Mono fielded their version of the twin towers with 218cm American Import Anthony McClain being joined on their roster with new 213cm American Import Michael Fey but it was the Slingers who were able to out rebound the much bigger Mono front line 44 -38.
The Slingers went into the game missing a few players. Guard Wong Wei Long (suspended for 2 games) and Leon Kwek (Illness) both missed the match and forward Delvin Goh also wasn’t fully fit for the match but battle hard helping to restrict Mono import Michael fey to just 11 points for the game. Slingers Import Xavier Alexander fell just 2 assists shy of a triple double finishing with 22 points, 11 rebounds & 8 assists.
Slingers Leading Scorers:
Xavier Alexander: 22 points, 11 rebounds & 8 assists
Justin Howard: 17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists & 3 steals
Wu Qingde: 12 points, 4 rebounds & 2 assists
Kris Rosales: 9 points, 6 rebounds & 4 assists
Desmond Oh: 8 points, 3 rebounds & 2 assists
Mono Leading Scorers: Anthony McClain 19 points & 14 rebounds, Ratdech Kruatiwa 18 points & 4 rebounds, Michael Fey 11 points & 8 rebounds.
