On February 1, Wednesday, when the Singapore Slingers host the San Miguel Beermen of the Philippines at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, it will not just be a regular season game.
The Singapore Slingers are dedicating the game to help the Singapore Cancer Society promote Cancer Awareness. The Slingers will be wearing Pink Game Uniforms.
The Singapore Cancer Society is a self-funded voluntary health organisation that depends on public donations to fund all its services and programmes. The Society is endorsed by the Ministry of Health and is a member of the National Council of Social Service. It also has IPC (Institute of Public Character) status as a charity since 1995.
“Helping and reaching out to the local community is one of our ball clubs (Singapore Slingers) advocacies. We are proud that we have been given this privilege and opportunity by the Singapore Cancer Society in assisting them to help spread the word about Cancer Awareness,” said Michael Johnson, General Manager of the Singapore Slingers.
The game will also be a launch pad for World Cancer Day which is commemorated on February 4.
The Home Team, which usually wears White (or Yellow, in the case of the Singapore Slingers), will don Pink Game Uniforms instead. The Pink Game Jerseys will be auctioned off after the game. Bids can be made through SMS at 9122 9365 or through Direct Message on Twitter @SGSlingers. Please indicate uniform number, bid amount, your name and contact information. Bidding closes at 11:59AM on February 2. Winners will be notified immediately after. All auction proceeds will go to the Singapore Cancer Society.
This is the first match up between these 2 teams in the regular season. The Beermen and the Slingers last squared off in Bangkok, Thailand, during the ‘To Be Number 1 Challenge’ Pre Season Tourney.
Come and watch your Singapore Slingers as we promote Cancer Awareness in hosting the San Miguel Beermen on Wednesday, February 1, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Tickets are available through SISTIC at www.sistic.com.sg.
