Singaporean Referee Andre Wong Hwee Liak looks on as the Australian Boomers and Team China play in the annual YouYi Games

Singaporean basketball referee Andre Wong Hwee Liak, who recently refereed all three games of the Australia VS China Men’s National Teams YouYi Games Series in Perth, Western Australia, was praised by 4-time Olympian and CEO of event promoter RV Sports, Andrew Vlahov.

“We were again delighted with the performance of Andre in all three games of the 2012 series and we have already taken steps to invite him to referee in next year’s YouYi series. We will also be looking to have Andre in Broome to referee in the 2012 Cable Beach Invitational on 21, 22 & 23 September 2012”, said Vlahov.

The YouYi Games is a friendly series that started in 2011. The series is contracted to take place each year from 2011-2015 and gives both highly ranked national teams valuable competition in the lead up to the Olympics and World Championships.

The Cable Beach Invitational Tournament will feature four professional teams this year, the Beijing Ducks and the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) and the Singapore Slingers of the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) have all confirmed their participation. An Australian NBL team will also compete in the tournament.

Andre Wong Hwee Liak refereed in the 2011 YouYi series and was invited back for all three games of the 2012 series played in Perth & Albany Western Australia on 9, 11 & 13 June 2012.
