Singapore – A pair of double doubles and 3 players scoring in double digits made for a good afternoon in Singapore.
Rashad Jones-Jennings had 24 points and 23 rebounds and Kyle Jeffers had 16 points and 17 rebounds to lead the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers to an 80-69 win over the Saigon Heat on Sunday.
Wong Wei Long added 20 points and 4 assists. Wei Long shot 5 of 8 from the 3 point arc.
The game remained fairly close in the first quarter, but the Slingers, who now sport a 3 win 3 loss record, took control in the second, outscoring the Heat 28-16 before halftime.
“It’s good to get a win. However, I am disappointed that we let Saigon back in the game during the 4th quarter. I feel that we can play better as a unit if we want to upset the Heat in Saigon,” said Coach Neo Beng Siang.
Jai Reyes led Saigon with 22 points and David Palmer added 20. The Heat missed Dior Lowhorn in today’s game due to a hamstring injury. Ben Wisniewski played in lieu of Lowhorn and scored 11 points.
The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers led by as much as 19 points midway thru the third quarter but saw that lead trimmed down to 4 after a Jai Reyes three pointer with 4 minutes left in the game.
A tip-in by Jones-Jennings off a missed Cabatu free throw put the lead back to a comfortable 7 points for the home team.
The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers will travel to Ho Chi Minh as they face the Saigon Heat on Friday, February 22. The Slingers next home game is on Sunday, February 24, when they face the San Miguel Beermen.
