The Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers, Singapore’s first and only Professional Basketball Team, today announced the signing of Delvin Goh Kok Chiang and Russel Wenqiang Low for the 2014 AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) season. In accordance with team policy, terms of the contracts were not announced.
Singapore’s ‘Twin Towers’, Delvin and Russel stand at 200cm and 197cm, respectively. Both are expected to anchor the Power Forward position this season for the Slingers.
19 year-old Delvin Goh will be in his 3rd year of duty in Slingers colors. He will be looking to push for more minutes on the court this season having worked hard on his offensive game in the off-season.
Russel Low was a key player for the Singapore National Team during the inaugural Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore. Having recently turned 21, he will join the Slingers as a rookie this season after completing his National Service duties last March.
Both players were part of the Singapore Men’s National Team which won the Bronze Medal at the 2013 South East Asian (SEA) Games held in Myanmar last December, the first SEA Games medal for Singapore Men’s Basketball in 34 years.
Slingers Head Coach Neo Beng Siang said: “Though Delvin and Russel are still very young, they both played a key role at the center position for our National Team. Playing for the Slingers and in the ABL offers them a chance to go up against more competitive, and at times much bigger import opponents on a weekly basis.” He added: “This is a great preparation for both of them, heading towards the SEA Games to be held here in Singapore in 2015.”
