Singapore – The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers survived a late run by the visiting Westports Malaysia Dragons Tuesday, 68-67, to snap a two-game losing streak. Kyle Jeffers had a good all around game, leading all scorers with 24 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, and dishing out 6 assists.
Rookie Singaporean Mitchell Folkoff was instrumental in the victory, contributing 9 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals.
Westports Malaysia Dragons Imports Cedric Bozeman and Gavin Edwards were limited to 16 and 8 points, respectively. Loh Shee Fai scored 14 points as well for the Dragons.
“Our boys did what we asked them to do – run hard and defend hard. The Dragons are a very tough team. We’re fortunate that our boys’ handwork delivered us the victory tonight,” said Coach Neo Beng Siang, Head Coach of the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers.
The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers went toe to toe with the visiting Westports Malaysia Dragons early on in the game. The Slingers defense tightened up in the 2nd quarter and saw them take the lead by halftime, 37-29.
It looked like the Slingers were off to cruising victory as they led by 14 points early in the 4th quarter. The Dragons had other things in mind though as they went on a 15-3 scoring run that tied the game at 59 with 3 minutes left in the game.
A three pointer by Folkoff gave the Slingers a breather while Jun Cabatu converted on his free throws after a missed dunk by Tautuaa that could have sent the game into overtime. Loh Shee Fai made a three pointer with 1.9 seconds left on the clock that cut the Slingers lead down to 1. Kyle Jeffers then caught a hail mary pass off an inbound as time expired.
The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers will travel to Jakarta to play the defending champions, Indonesia Warriors on February 13th.
