Singapore, 9th September 2014: The Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers today announced that 213cm American center Justin Howard would be the replacement for injured Slingers import Kyle Jeffers. Howard will play his first game as a Singapore Slinger when the team plays the Saigon Heat in Saigon this Friday.
Jeffers suffered an ankle injury in the Slingers last home game v Hitech Bangkok City and it has only been in the last few days, due to the amount of swelling around the ankle, that he has been able to have an MRI to determine the extent of the injury. It is still to early to determine the exact length of time Jeffers will be out but he maybe lost for the season.
The Slingers notified the ABL yesterday afternoon that due to the injury Jeffers sustained on August 31st the team was placing Kyle on the injured reserve list. Being placed on Injured reserved means the Slingers can bring in a replacement player for Jeffers and it also means that Jeffers would be eligible to be brought back into the team prior to the play-offs if he recovers from his injury.
Kyle has been one of the team’s key driving forces this season and it will be hard to replace his passion on the court.
Howard who stands a towering 213cm will give the Slingers some much needed size when the team takes the court against the Saigon Heat on Friday. Howard has played all over the world, including stints with the Thailand Slammers & Saigon Heat during the 2013 ABL season. He is a very experienced player who will give his all for his new team.
Justin arrived in Singapore yesterday afternoon and a few hours later he was meeting his new teammates and participating in his first training session.
The Singapore Slingers play the Saigon Heat in Saigon this Friday 12th September before returning home on Friday 19th September to take on HITECH Bangkok City. Tip-off for the game v Hitech Bangkok City at the OCBC Arena is 8.00pm.
