The Singapore Slingers have once again been invited to play in the Cable Beach Invitational Tournament held in Broome, Western Australia. This is the second straight year that the Slingers will travel to Broome for the said tournament.

The 2012 Cable Beach Invitational Tournament, to be held on September 26 to 28, will be played in a unique outdoor setting nestled between the beautiful 26-mile stretch of Cable Beach & the 5-star Cable Beach Resort.

This year’s tournament will feature four professional teams playing in a round-robin format – the Perth Wildcats of the Australia National Basketball League (NBL Australia), the Shanghai Xiyang Sharks and the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) and the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers of the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).

The tournament will be extremely tough as the team will have several new faces and will only have a chance to train in the 3 days prior to departing Singapore for Broome. This, however, gives the Slingers, who are currently in the middle of their ABL off-season, a chance to try-out new talent. With veteran Slingers players Pathman Matialakan and Steven Khoo announcing their retirement after the 2012 AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League season, roster slots will be available.

The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers have invited ASEAN import players Jai Reyes (Bangkok Cobras) and Jun Jun Cabatu (San Miguel Beermen) to play with the Slingers in Broome to trial them for next season, set to begin in January 2013.

Veteran American player Lester Strong, who has just finished the season in the Australian SEABL, will also join the team in Broome for the three game tournament.

JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers Head Coach Neo Beng Siang said “this will be a good opportunity to test some new players in a very high standard international competition. All of our local players are currently competing with their Singapore National Basketball League (Singapore NBL) teams and we had to seek permission from their local club teams for them to travel with the Slingers for this tournament.”

Michael Johnson, General Manager of the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers adds: “We are thankful that the local clubs we approached were supportive and agreed to our request to release the invited players for the Cable Beach tournament. I believe the clubs saw this as a great opportunity for their players to play against first class international competition in what is a truly amazing setting.”

The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers will open the tournament against the Australian NBL 2012 Championship Finalists, Perth Wildcats.
