24th September 2014, Singapore – JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers turned up the temperature on Laskar Dreya South Sumatra in the second half en route to 96-73 win at the OCBC Arena, Singapore.
Dior Lowhorn submitted another impressive performance after scoring 26 points on 12-for-14 shooting night. In his second game back, Larry Liew looked sharp and had an efficient game as he finished with 18 points on 5-for 6 shooting, including 4-for5 from behind the arc. Justin Howard added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Slingers who never trailed in this game. All 11 Slingers players scored in this game.
With this win, the Slingers improve to 10-5 and continued to trail the number two seed Westports Malaysia Dragons by only half a game in the 2014 AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League standings.
Coming off a win over Hi-Tech Bangkok City, the Slingers led 11-2 right out of the gate after Liew and Wong Wei Long drained back-to-back three-pointers. The Slingers shot a blazing 83 percent from the field to take a 25-17 lead after 10 minutes.
Laskar Dreya, still looking for their first win this season, fought back in the second quarter after their leading scorer Falando Jones came alive and they also received some help from the Slingers who committed 11 turnovers in the first half. Jones brought his team to within three-point, 37-34, after nailing a triple with 1:49 left before halftime. But, Howard responded with a put back and Russel Low drained a hook shot to give the Slingers a 42-35 cushion at the halftime break.
The home team broke the game wide open in the third period by outscoring Dreya 31-14. Up by just 8 points, 51-43, with six minutes left, the Slingers turned up their defense by limiting Dreya to only 6 points for the rest of the period. A layup from Liew and a triple from Lowhorn sparked the 22-6 run for the Slingers. This gave the Slingers a 73-49 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Slingers got their biggest lead in the game at 28, 81- 53, after Liew Buried a corner triple with 8 minutes left.
Moustapha Ndoye led Laskar Dreya with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Jones finished with 18 points. Team captain Tri Wilopo had 10 points and Rexanded Leynes added 9 points.
The Slingers will travel to Jakarta to take on the Indonesia Warriors on Sunday September 28 at the BritAma Arena before returning home for their final home regular season game v Saigon Heat.
