For the Singapore Slingers, there’s no better time to move up in the rankings than here and now as they welcome the challenge of the scoring hot BTN CLS Knights Indonesia at the OCBC Arena:
The Slingers are coming off an important 87-80 victory against the Saigon Heat in their last game with all of Singapore’s starters scoring double digits.
With the talent level of the Slinger imports, they only need a couple of locals playing well on offense for a better shot at winning and they got the numbers from Delvin Goh and Desmond Oh who combined for 21 points.
Although Singapore did not get a single point from their bench in the game, what’s important was that they retained their defensive energy for much of the game. Apart from the third quarter where Saigon flashed its fiery form with 33 points, Singapore held the Heat below 20 points in the first, second, and fourth quarters.
This would be the same blueprint they would need against the Knights who have torched their last seven opponents with hot shooting from the outside.
A key player to stop in this game is former Slinger skipper Wong Wei Long who is now playing as a local for the Indonesian side. Wei Long was a huge part of Singapore’s success in the past but now he’ll be on the other side. He’ll have to be checked as surely he’s eager to prove that he can still perform at an MVP level in the ABL. Wei Long will also be very familiar with the rims at the OCBC Arena as he called it home for the longest time.
Singapore will be banking once again on the inside presence of John Fields and the unending energy of Jerran Young and Xavier Alexander as they’ll target a top four spot in the standings in the latter half of the elimination round.
