Even if the Singapore Slingers were idle last weeks, the results of the other games allowed them to officially book a seat in the ABL playoffs. However, the Slingers are out for loftier goals as they are keen on hanging on for a top four spot and even targeting the second spot for home-court advantage.
At 13-8, Singapore currently sits at the third spot behind San Miguel Alab Pilipinas at 18-4 and the Formosa Dreamers at 15-6. These two teams will be facing off against each other today which means the Slingers can really make a move on them with a win against the BTN CLS Knights Indonesia.
It will be the final meeting between these two teams. The Knights won their first battle 89-74 but the Slingers bounced back to win the next two.
The name of the game for Singapore in their last two wins was limiting the output of former Slinger Wong Wei Long.
Desmond Oh and the rest of the Slingers have done a great jog in limiting Wei Long’s threat as he only averaged 2.5 points in their last two games and failed to hit a single field goal.
Singapore is hoping to bounce back after suffering a loss to Alab in their last game at the OCBC Arena.
The Slingers did very well defensively in that game except for the third quarter. Singapore actually won the first and fourth quarter at 21-18 and 12-11, respectively, and only lost the second quarter by a single points, 15-14. The problem was that they were not able to hang on in the third where Alab exploded for 36 points.
John Fields will once again power Singapore’s offense as he is their leader in scoring with 23.8 points per game while adding 12.9 rebounds per contest. He’ll surely get help from Xavier Alexander who norms 21.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.8 assosts per contest.
