After a tough double-overtime home loss to the Hong Kong Eastern two days ago, the Singapore Slingers aim to rebound and finish 2018 with a bang as they take on the undefeated San Miguel Alab Pilipinas on the road.
The last game was a tough pill to swallow for the Slingers as they suffered a 92-89 loss. However, it was still a gallant stand from the squad as two imports (John Fields and Jerran Young) and three locals (Delvin Goh, Larry Liew, and Lim Jun Yuan) all fouled out of the game but they still gave Hong Kong Eastern a good fight until the final buzzer.
After dealing with Sam Deguara, Singapore will be facing another giant in PJ Ramos who will certainly throw his weight around inside. Renaldo Balkman will also pose as a challenge for the Singapore defense as he has played outstanding basketball in their three games this season.
An advantage for the Slingers is that the defending champions have decided to use only two imports this season, meaning one of Singapore’s three imports will be defended by a local all game long. Singapore needs to look at mismatches and take advantage of all these opportunities to have a shot at dealing Alab their first loss of the season.
Goh has stepped up big time for the Slingers as he has elevated his game, giving them a legitimate power forward option. He notched a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds while adding five assists and two steals in their last game before fouling out.
Xaiver Alexander and Fields led the fight for Singapore against Hong Kong Eastern as they combined for 50 points and 25 rebounds but they need to cut down on their turnovers as they threw the ball away 10 times. More than that though, Singapore will have to get a better performance from Young who averaged 20 points in their first six games only came up with 10 against Hong Kong Eastern.
