Singapore – The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers travel to Thailand and put their 4 game winning streak on the line against the rejuvenated Defending Champs, the Chang Thailand Slammers in the 3rd Season of the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League. The Slammers have recently snapped their 3 game losing skid by winning against the Indonesia Warriors in Jakarta.
The Slingers, who are just coming off a victory over the San Miguel Beermen, have won 4 straight after their opening day game loss to the Indonesia Warriors. They will also put their league-best defense to the test, allowing their opponents to an average of only 61.60 points per game.
Don Dulay will lead the charge for the Slingers. Dulay had 23 points in their last game against the Beermen. Louis Graham and Donald Little will help out with their defense inside the paint. The Slingers will also look for contribution from their bench, led by Singaporean Wong Wei Long.
“Although we have a 4 game winning streak, I think our offense still needs a lot of improvement,” said JobStreet.Com Singapore Slingers Head Coach Neo Beng Siang. “We have to be consistently running our offensive sets all game long and need to limit our turnovers. In our last game against San Miguel, we had a comfortable lead midway through the third, only to have the Beermen trim it down and tie the game because we didn’t protect the ball well,” he added.
The Defending Champs will look for scoring from burly import DeAndre Thomas, who had 27 points in the first matchup versus the Slingers. The JobStreet.Com Singapore Slingers won over Chang Thailand Slammers 74-63 in their previous matchup, but needed a big 3rd quarter scoring run to do so. ABL Season 1 MVP Attaporn Lertmalaiporn will be a force to reckon with on the offensive side as well. Attaporn is averaging 10.4 points per game this season.
Filipino Imports Boyet Bautista and Chester Tolomia, who played last year for the Brunei Barracudas, have recently been enlisted by the Chang Thailand Slammers. Tolomia looks to contribute for the home team, as he is averaging 17 points a game for the Slammers.
“Even though we are happy to have won our last 4 games we need to show we can be consistent on the road to be considered serious contenders for the ABL Championship,” said JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers General Manager Michael Johnson.
The game between the Slingers and the Slammers that will be held at the Thai-Japanese Association Gym in Bangkok will be shown live on ESPN. Tip Off is 6PM local time/7PM Singapore time.
