Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore – The Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers were unable to overcome a disastrous first quarter in their home game against the Westport Malaysia Dragons, falling 82-72 and putting their 2013 playoff chances in real danger.
Trailing the Dragons 33-10 at the first break, the Slingers made only slight headway in the second quarter to trial by 21 points at the main break. After a stern half time talk, the Slingers responded with a spirited second half effort which saw the home team outscore the visitors 48-37. Unfortunately for the Slingers, poor performance in the first period was just too big of a hole to dig their way out of with the Dragons finally holding on for a 82-72 win.
For the Slingers, Lim Sheng Yu had a break out game leading the Slingers in scoring with 19 points. Phillip Morrison finished with 18 points, and Rashad Jennings had 16 points and 20 rebounds.

“I am not sure why we seem to be struggling so badly at the start of our last two home games. We will need to address this problem and quickly if we are to have a chance at making the playoffs. We still believe if we can win our remaining games against Indonesia we have a chance of making the post season, but it will be a huge task against the defending ABL Champions” said Slingers Head Coach Neo Beng Siang.
The Slingers now face the daunting task of beating the defending ABL Champion Indonesia Warriors in Jakarta on Friday night to keep their 2013 ABL playoff hopes alive.
