The Bangkok Cobras and the Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers came into the game following heartbreaking losses which made them more determined than ever to grab the win this afternoon. Both teams put in a tough fight but it was the Cobras that came out victorious, coming back from being outscored 11 to 26 in the second quarter to grab the win 79-74
Cobras’ Marvin Cruz finished as the game’s points leader with 26 points followed by Gentry Lewis who narrowly missed out on a double double with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Jai Reyes also found himself on his team’s leaderboard with 18 points.
Louis Graham recorded a double double for the Slingers with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The two Donalds also finished on their team’s leaderboard, Donald Little contributing 17 points and Don Dulay putting in 14.
The Cobras dominated the Slingers in the first quarter, keeping their visitors down to just 9 field goal attempts compared to their own 23. The Cobras also forced the Slingers to make 11 turnovers and the Slingers found themselves with quite a challenge as the first quarter ended 30 to 16.
The second quarter was all about the Slingers however and they completed their comeback mid-way through the quarter when a Desmond Oh jumper gave the Slingers their first lead in this game. Wong Wei Long played a fantastic game in this quarter as the Slingers outscored the Cobras 26 to 11 in this quarter. Despite repeated attempts by the Cobras to grab the lead back, the score going into halftime saw the Slingers leading the game 42 to 41.
Coming back into the game after the halftime break the Slingers went straight to work to increase their lead to 8 points. Not about to give up in front of their home fans, the Cobras answered with a seven point run to take back the lead shortly after that with two and a half minutes remaining till the fourth. The quarter ended with the Cobras holding a slight advantage at 60 to 58.
It was an exciting final quarter as both teams continued to chase the lead. Incredible plays from Jai Reyes and Marvin Cruz put the home team ahead and despite a brave fight from the Slingers the Cobras walked away with the win 79 to 74.
