Singapore – Another move towards the Slingers’ goal of winning it all in the 2012 ASEAN Basketball League Season was made today when the Singapore Slingers announced that Coach Neo Beng Siang has agreed to coach the Slingers in the upcoming season.
Coach Neo signed a Coaching Contract with the Singapore Slingers prior to guiding the Singapore Men’s National Team to a 5th place finish at the recently concluded 26th South East Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Slingers General Manager Michael Johnson said: “Neo has done a fantastic job for the club, first as an Assistant Coach from 2006-2010, and then as the Teams’ Head Coach last season. We are excited that Neo has agreed to stay on as Head Coach of the Slingers for the 2012 season and we are looking forward to a great season ahead.”
In his inaugural season as Head Coach of the Singapore Slingers, he steered the team to a 7-8 win-loss record in the regular season, and eventually bowed out of contention after losing to the eventual champions, Chang Thailand Slammers, 2-1 in the Semi Finals clash.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to work with the Slingers and I am very pleased and excited that I have secured the Singapore Slingers head coaching position for the 2012 ABL season”, Coach Neo said. He added “I am grateful for the confidence the Slingers have shown in me, despite not making in the Championship Series last season. Nevertheless, I will do my best this season and hopefully the team will be inspired to reach the next level & challenge for the ABL title.”
Coach Neo believes that the additional three new teams will certainly bring the competition to a whole new level. He said that their import signings are strong and their local talent is also improving, making it a very interesting and challenging season. “I am excited and I am looking forward to the season ahead!” said Coach Neo.
