Singapore – The San Miguel Beermen, who are visiting Singapore for the first time this season, made the most of their opportunities in their matchup against the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, walking away with the victory 66-55. Chris Banchero led the Beermen with 16 points and dished out 5 assists. Asi Taulava contributed 10 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

Kyle Jeffers, who has been battling a chronic plantar fasciitis injury all season long and struggled to get up and down the floor today still was able to lead everyone in scoring and had a double double performance with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Rashad Jones-Jennings, a vital player in the previous Slingers victories, was hounded by San Miguel’s defense all game long as he scored just 8 points on 3 of 13 shooting. The ABL leading rebounder was still able to pull down a game leading 16 rebounds. Jones-Jennings was double and triple teamed all game but the Slingers were unable to capitalise on the Beermen’s tactics as they were unable to hit any open outside shots, finishing with an anaemic 3/20 three point field goal shooting.

Prior to the Sunday game against the Beermen, the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers were coming off a huge road victory against the Saigon Heat last Friday. However, after traveling all day Saturday and arriving in Singapore late Saturday night and with no preparations, the team struggled against a physical and fired up San Miguel team.

The Slingers are now sporting a 4-4 win-loss record.

Although the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers won the rebounding battle against the San Miguel Beermen, fatigue was clearly a factor as the Slingers struggled to convert on their baskets. The Slingers shot 17/79 from the field finishing with terrible 22% field goal percentage for the game.

After a good team performance in Saigon, the Slingers were forced to more individual plays which also resulted to 16 turnovers.

The San Miguel Beermen led by as much as 16 points, however, the Slingers climbed back and trimmed the lead down to 6 points on a Jeffers basket with 6:20 left in the 3rd Quarter.

Don Dulay continued his shooting woes as he failed to make a field goal & Wong Wei Long, who missed the road game against Saigon, struggled to fit back into the team shoting only 2/13 from the field.

The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers will now now have nearly 2 weeks before traveling to Kuala Lumpur to face a resurging Westports Malaysia Dragons on March 10th.
