Dragons Jump on Slingers Early, Never Trail in 101-87 Win

12th October 2014, Kuala Lumpur – Westports Malaysia Dragons played as close to perfect basketball at MABA Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, as they clobbered JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers 101-87 on Sunday afternoon.
Malaysia received contributions from everyone and limited its turnovers to only 4. Moala Tautuaa led the Dragons with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Eversley finished with 22 points, Justin Knox had 18 points and Avery Scharer added 15 points for the Dragons who never trailed in this game.
The victory helped the Dragons improved to a 13-5 record, setting up a crucial game against the number one Hi-Tech Bangkok City (13-4) on Saturday October 18 at MABA.
The home team was off to a flying start, leading 14-2 with 6:25 left in the first period after a slick reverse layup from Wong Wee Seng and another layup from Eversley.
Dior Lowhorn brought his team to within 9 points, 30-21, after nailing a layup with 7:12 left. But, the Dragons responded immediately with a putback jam from Tautuaa and a three-point play from Scharer to push their lead back to 35-21. Malaysia had a 56-36 cushion at halftime.
Malaysia captured their biggest lead at 29, 66-37, after opening the third quarter on a 10-1 run. Scharer knocked down a three-pointer and Tautuaa completed his three-point to cap off their big run.
Dragons’ lead was cut to 16 points early in the fourth quarter after Larry Liew sank a three-pointer. But, Tautuaa was having one of his best games of the season. He answered the Slingers’ run with 8 straight points to seal a perfect afternoon for the Dragons.
Lowhorn finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Justin Howard had 21 points and 11 rebounds. Liew contributed 14 points and Desmond Oh added 10 points for the Slingers who already booked their playoffs ticket with an 11-7 record.
The Slingers will travel to Ho Chi Minh City to play Saigon Heat on Friday October 17 at the CIS Arena.
