9th October 2017
The Singapore Slingers are set for a tough start to the 2017-18 ABL season with 5 of their first 7 games away from home and a less then ideal start to pre season training. The Slingers will start their campaign in China against new team Nanhai Long Lions on the 17th November before returning home to face CLS Knights from Indonesia.
Due to the unavailability of the OCBC Arena for large periods during Nov and Dec the Slingers will be forced to play the bulk of their games on the road before the Christmas break.
The Slingers are also struggling with player availability for training due to the local NBL competition taking place 4 nights a week throughout October and clashing with Slingers trainings. Between the NBL schedule, players with National Service and University commitments we are struggling to get 10 players to training most nights said Slingers coach Neo Beng Siang.
Coach Neo was however happy with the effort and commitment shown by those players who have been available for training with one or two of the younger players doing well at the start of the teams pre season workouts.
This season is stacking up to be the toughest in the league 7 year history with 9 teams and 3 new teams being added. Each team will again have 10 home and 10 away games in the regular season while the playoffs will be expanded to include a quarter final best of 3 round.
