Today the Singapore Slingers announced that they had re-signed 2019-20 ABL MVP Xavier Alexander and Singapore local star Delvin Goh for the upcoming ABL season.
Both Alexander and Goh were vital parts in the Slingers’ Finals run last ABL season as the two players were a consistent fixture in the team’s starting lineup.
Xavier Alexander was voted the 2019 Import MVP after having a historic year wherein he broke multiple league records including Most Career Points. The 6’5 wingman averaged 21.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 8 assists during the 2018-2019 campaign while leading the team to the ABL Finals for the third time in 4 years.
“It feels great and nothing short of a blessing to sign back for my 5th year with the Slingers,” Alexander said. “I’m blessed and honoured to be able to not only continue my growth as a person and player but to also be able to continue to be a vessel for kids in Asia to learn and see the game of basketball at a high level.”
Alexander also mentioned that he did not spend much time in the United States during the offseason to workout and prepare for the upcoming season.
“…so when the ABL comes around again, I’m already READY!” Xavier explained.
Meanwhile, Singaporean Delvin Goh saw an increase in minutes and numbers last season as he posted career-high averages of 8.3 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 48% from the field. In his young age of 24-years-old, Goh has already played 7 seasons with the Singapore Slingers in the ABL.
“It will be my 8th season with the Slingers, and I’m always pumped up about starting a new year with the Slingers,” Goh said. “[I’m] still hungry for the championship since the loss to the Knights [last] May.”
The young forward also added that he plans to improve his shooting and take more shots in the upcoming season.
Alexander and Goh will undoubtedly be key cogs once again as the Slingers gear up for the upcoming season.
