Singapore – Wong Wei Long scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter that propelled the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers over the visiting Indonesia Warriors at the newly-built OCBC Arena in Singapore. Kyle Jeffers contributed 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Slingers as they secured their 3rd straight victory.

Han Bing Ng provided the spark off the bench with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Al Vergara added 10 points for the Slingers who now sport a win-loss record of 4-2.

Slingers up and coming star Larry Liew continued to showcase his shooting ability in the 2014 AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League. Liew made a layup and drained a corner jumpshot over Tremayne Johnson that gave the Slingers a 13-8 advantage. Unfortunately, Liew had to leave the game after injuring his finger with 3:30 left in the opening quarter. Despite Liew’s Exit, the Slingers closed the first quarter on a 9-0 run which gave them a 24-11 lead.

After shooting 25% from the field in the first quarter, the Warriors’ offense started to find their groove in the second canto. Chris Ellis sank one from behind the arc to start a 9-0 run with 7 minutes to go before the halftime break. Vinton Surawi capped off the run with a corner three-pointer to cut the Warriors deficit to 28-22.

The Slingers did not want to lose their double-digit lead at halftime as they used an 8-0 run to end the half. Han Bin and Vergara made a three-pointer each during that stretch to give the Slingers a 42-25 cushion at halftime.

With a 16-point lead to start the final quarter, the Slingers allowed the Warriors to gain some momentum. John Smith scored back to back baskets to open the quarter to help the Warriors get within 12 points. With 6:43 left, Ellis continued the Warriors’ surge by draining a three-point shot to cut their deficit down 8, 59-51.

From there on, it was the Wong Wei Long show. The Singaporean guard, who will turn 26 years old in a couple of days, made an off-balance shot over John Smith plus the foul shot to keep the Slingers’ lead at 12 points. His short jumper over Bonanza Siregar with 2:36 left put the Warriors away for good.

Johnson was still able to finish with 19 points for the Warriors despite dealing with foul trouble in the first half. Ellis finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds while Smith added 14 points despite only shooting 4 for 18.
