HO CHI MINH CITY – Owing to their relentless defense in the final canto, the undermanned Singapore Slingers routed the Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team, 91-83, giving them their second preseason victory in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The Slingers appear to be on a roll right now after having defeated Eastern in a thrilling contest. Up until the final frame, neither team seemingly wanted to lose to the other, as both traded shots constantly resulting in 13 lead changes and 12 deadlocks throughout the course of the game.
John Fields paced the Slingers after yet another double-double outing with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Despite the 8-man rotation, the Singapore-based cagers put up a tenacious fight notably down the stretch. Jerran Young and Xavier Alexander also chipped in 21 and 22 markers, respectively, while the promising forward, Delvin Goh, added 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists as well.
Meanwhile, Eastern’s newest acquisition, the hefty Samuel Deguara towered over everyone else with a monstrous performance, putting up 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead his team. The supporting cast included Kin Fan Siu and Marcus Elliott who added 19 and 14 points, respectively.
Eastern had 18 turnovers in the entire game, giving the Slingers the opportunity to capitalize and convert those into 31 points on the other end.
The Singapore Slingers will look to continue their preseason dominance as they go against the Westports Malaysia Dragons in MABA Stadium, Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.
