The Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers today announced that American Import Kyle Jeffers is to be replaced because of an injury. The 4-year ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) veteran has been battling Plantar Fasciitis and has been under going treatment which has not been able to correct the injury. Jeffers approached the club management prior to the recent road win against the Saigon Heat in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to say he would not be able to continue to play through the pain.

Plantar Fasciitis is a painful inflammatory process of the plantar fascia, a connective tissue on the sole of the foot. Another common term for the injury is ‘policeman’s heel’.

Slingers General Manager Michael Johnson said: “Kyle has been a huge part of the Slingers for that past 4 seasons. We will definitely miss his on-court energy.  We were aware of the injury before we re-signed Kyle this season but we were all hoping the injury would respond well to treatment and that he could get through the season.”

Kyle Jeffers, who is a fan-favorite in Singapore, is currently averaging 17.5 points per game and 11.88 rebounds per game in the 2013 ABL wars.

Jeffers, who has appeared in 50 games for the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers, is 1 of only 2 players who has seen action in all 4 seasons of ABL, with the other being Steven Thomas of the Indonesia Warriors. He is also the only import to have played for the same team in the ABL’s first 4 seasons. Jeffers has career averages of 16 points and 13 rebounds per game.

Kyle’s injury is a big blow to the team. Based on his contributions, effort and energy, he is certainly a crucial player. He is a coachable individual and his work ethic is commendable. It saddens the team and myself that he needs to leave due to his injuries“, said Neo Beng Siang, Head Coach of the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers.

Although Jeffers’ will be indefinitely sidelined due to injury, he will continue to work with the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers, Singapore’s first and only professional basketball team, in its’ schools and community
programs, as well as on the sponsorship side.
