OCBC Arena Singapore: 11th March 2018
Singapore Slingers rue lacklustre second half as they drop their final regular season home game 65-64 to the CLS Knights.
Needing to keep winning to have any chance at a top 4 finish at the end of the ABL regular season the Slingers came out looking like they would ran away with the game early, pushing out to a 12 point lead during the 2nd quarter. The lead could have been even more except for a a terrible 1-6 from the FT line by the home team.
The Slingers had many opportunities to expand their lead but were unable to knock down several wide out shots throughout the game. Playing with nothing to lose the CLS Knights out hustled the home team coming away with the majority of the 50-50 lose balls.
Even playing far below their best it was 18 turnovers and a miserable night from the free throw line (7-16) that would ultimately cost the Slingers the game.
If the Slingers are going to advance in the play-offs and get back to the finals they will need to fix up the teams inconsistency and their Free Throw issues.
The Slingers still hold on to 5th place despite today’s loss with a 10 win – 2 loss record. The Slingers will close out their regular season with away games against Formosa Dreams next Sunday in Taiwan followed by an away game to the Saigon Heat the following Saturday.
The Slingers had already secured their playoff berth last week, but with 2 weeks of the regular season still remaining, final positions are still undecided.
