The Singapore Slingers will try to shake off their two-game losing slide but they’ll have a tough task in front of them in the Saigon Heat, one of the hottest teams in the league.
The Slingers have not looked good as of late as they suffered a two-point loss to Mono Vampire followed by another letdown against the red-hot BTN CLS Knights Indonesia where Singapore was down by as much as 22 points.
In that game, the Slingers got the usual numbers from their three imports but the locals were not able to help out a lot. The usually reliable Delvin Goh only managed four points in the game on 1 of 6 shooting from the field.
To overcome the Heat, the most important thing for Singapore is discipline on defense. Led by the talented guard Trevon Hughes, Saigon employs an offense that stretches the defense with spacing and quick passing. With able shooters and slashers and a post-threat in Kyle Barone, the Heat have mastered the art of looking for the mismatches and taking full advantage.
Saigon will be heading to the OCBC Arena brimming with confidence specially with their locals stepping up as of late. Chris Dierker picked up a monster double-double of 18 rebounds and 17 assists in their last game with Khoa Tran and Corey Cilia chipping in 10 points each.
Singapore can expect more of the same from John Fields, Xavier Alexander, and Jerran Young but the question is who among the locals would step up? They won games with Goh as their only local scoring threat but against a team as good as Saigon, Singapore will have to squeeze out more contributions outside the imports.
