The seesaw battle between the Singapore Slingers and the Kuala Lumpur Dragons continued Sunday afternoon at the OCBC Arena in Kallang, Singapore.

The Dragons, for the second time this ABL season, got the better of the Slingers in their home court as Kuala Lumpur emerged victorious 77-68. With the win, the Dragons now hold a 9-7 win-loss record while the Slingers fell to 7-9.

It was a low-scoring game with neither team getting more than 22 points in a single quarter. The contest was tight at the start of the final period but one big run pushed the Dragons ahead for good.

The count was 62-60 in Kuala Lumpur’s favor with 7:33 remaining in the game after a couple of free throws from Marcus Elliott. The Dragons then unleashed a scoring hot scoring run to get the separation they needed.

It started with a Will Artino layup and quickly followed by a Loh Shee Fai triple. Kuala Lumpur’s three imports then scored a basket each as the Slingers failed to answer leading to an 11-0 run and a 73-60 advantage. It was only a three-minute drought for the Slingers but it was all the Dragons needed to take complete control of the match as Singapore was not able to threaten to storm their way back into the contest after that point.

Elliott led the Slingers with 21 points in the game while adding seven rebounds. He was the only starter who shot better than 35% from the field at 8 of 16. Xavier Alexander chipped in 20 points but it took him 15 shot attempts to get there while Anthony McClain notched another double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The missing links for the Slingers were their local starters as Leon Kwek and Delvin Goh only combined for nine points on 4 of 15 shooting from the field. As a team, Singapore only made 37% of their shots (25 of 66) while the Dragons did much better at 46% (33 of 71).

Amir Bell led Kuala Lumpur with 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists while Simeon Lepichev and Artino both scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Cade Davis was the fourth double-digit scorer for the Dragons with 15 points although he came up empty from the three-point range in seven attempts.

The Dragons now lead their season series against the Slingers 2-1 and the most interesting factor in this rivalry is that the away team has won all three games. The two teams will face off for the fourth and final time in the regular season on March 6 at the MABA Stadium.
