September will see the return of the PBA to Singapore when Rain or Shine, Meralco & San Miguel do battle with the Singapore Slingers at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on the 5th, 13th & 19th September.

The Singapore Slingers have confirmed that the games will go ahead against some of the PBA best. Singapore based fans can catch some of the PBA stars along with new draft choice at the Indoor Stadium.

The pre-season games will be a great build up to the ASEAN Basketball League season for the Slingers who will tip-off the new ABL season at home on 3 October..

2010/11 Roster Takes Shape

The Singapore Slingers are close to finalizing their roster for the 2010/11 season. The Slingers willagain go with eight (8) local players on their twelve (12) man roster.

The team has also signed two (2) US imports as well as two (2) Filipino imports to join the eight local players for the 2010/11 season. Returning for his 3rd Season with the Slingers is Filipino point guard Al Vergara. Also returning for a second season with the Slingers is US import Kyle Jeffers. Jeffers and Vergara will be Joined by American Marcus Skinner and former PBA veteran and Brunei Barracudas Filipino player Leo Avenido.

The Slingers have also signed local players Pathman Matialakan, Steven Khoo, Desmond Oh, Wong Wei Long as well as injured star Hong Wei Jian. There are several local players trialling for theremaining three (3) roster positions. (Slingers roster can be seen below).

The Slingers who commenced training on Monday 23rd September will play three (3) pre-seasongames against Philippines PBA teams Rain or Shine on 5 September, Meralco on 13 September & SanMiguel on the 19th September.The new ASEAN Basketball League will tip-off on 3rd October 2010.

ABL Season 2 Annouced!

August 23rd 2010, Mulia Hotel, Jakarta, Indonesia.

The ASEAN Basketball League today announced the official launch of its second season here in Jakarta. The event was graced by ABL founder Dato Sri Tony Fernandes, South East Asia Basketball Association President Erick Thorir, Dato Yeoh Choo Hock, General Secretary FIBA Asia and Ibu Noviantika Nasution, President of the Indonesian Basketball Association.

The new campaign will kick off with six teams with a new Thailand team in the form of the Thailand Cobras replacing last season’s team the Thailand Tigers. The league format will kick off on October the 2nd this year with the playoff Finals scheduled to begin in February 2011 and culminate in the finals at the end of February 2011. The format will be maintained from last season which will be in the form of triple home and away for the league stages with a best of 3 series for the play offs including the finals.

The ABL has received tremendous coverage in its first season and this year will see an increase in TV coverage for all the teams as the ABL has secured additional television partners in the region. This will translate to be platform for the ABL teams to promote themselves and give back even more benefits to their sponsors.
